Nicholas Köhler is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in Maclean's, the South China Morning Post and The Christian Science Monitor, among other places. He has reported from around the world, including New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, northeast Japan after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, and more recently from Myanmar as it lurched toward democracy.
