Cambrian College of Applied Arts and Technology
The Cambrian College of Applied Arts and Technology is the largest college in northern Ontario. Of its 5,858 full- and part-time students, more than 600 are Indigenous and 2,680 are international. The main campus is in Sudbury, while two satellite sites are in Espanola and on Manitoulin Island.
The college offers more than 90 certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and graduate certificate programs, in fields such as community services, creative arts and design, environmental monitoring, health sciences, law and justice, and business.
Cambrian has received national recognition for its programs in skilled trades and information technology. The college has introduced several new programs in recent years, including digital marketing management, artificial intelligence/machine learning and finance. Cambrian’s applied research strengths are in Indigenous education and the mining sector. Its new Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Lab features state-of-the-art equipment for BEV prototyping and testing of electric powertrains and batteries.
Cambrian is a national leader in Indigenous education and has created new spaces on campus to promote Indigenous culture. The Wabnode Centre for Indigenous Services offers social and cultural support and teachings for Indigenous students, along with campus-wide ceremonies. Cambrian was the first Ontario college to work with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitoba.
The college also features the Glenn Crombie Centre for Accessibility, Counselling and Wellness, providing a range of services for students who require special accommodations, counselling or assistive technology.
At both Vancouver campuses, students hone their skills while offering discounted services to the community. Hairstyling students run a salon and spa alongside their classmates in the aesthetics program. Dental-assisting students oversee a low-cost dental clinic, and culinary students cook gourmet cuisine at on-campus restaurants. The school’s annual gala showcases fashion arts, auto restoration and live music by students, faculty and alumni. Net proceeds from the event go toward student scholarships and bursaries.
