Camosun College
Originally a Lkwungen name for an area of Victoria, Camosun means “where different waters meet and are transformed.” Camosun College has two main campuses: Lansdowne, near downtown Victoria, and Interurban in rural Saanich, a 20-minute drive away. Camosun offers 160 certificate, diploma, degree, post-degree and continuing education programs in areas like arts and science, health, business, trades, Indigenous education and exercise education. The college is Vancouver Island’s largest trades and apprenticeship training provider and its largest business administration school. Camosun also has the largest dual credit program in B.C., supporting more than 950 students each year from five local school districts with their transition into post-secondary education and training. The Interurban campus is home to the 90,000-square-foot Alex and Jo Campbell Centre for Health and Wellness, which is designed for modern health-care and human services learning.
In 2020, Camosun and Atlantic Towing Limited announced the launch of a $700,000 marine simulator to widen the scope of marine courses offered and allow for high-level certificates. On the Lansdowne campus, the new Makerspace is a dynamic and beginner-friendly environment for students to innovate and collaborate using a variety of tools and technology, like 3D prototyping and audio production. More than five per cent of the school’s full-time students are Indigenous. Eyē Sqa’lewen, Camosun’s Centre for Indigenous Education and Community Connections, just celebrated three decades of education, programming and services.
