Blood test reveals new drug violation
Blood tests have revealed another doping infraction with the suspended University of Waterloo football team. One of 20 samples collected by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport in March has returned an adverse finding.
CCES president Paul Melia says that a failed test was returned by one of the nine players who had already failed a urine test. The CCES did not reveal what drug the positive test revealed. The university suspended its program for a year last month after nine players failed urine tests. Waterloo ordered tests for each of its 62 players in March after local police charged receiver Nathan Zettler with possession and trafficking of anabolic steroids.
It had already been described as the “most significant” steroids scandal in the history of Canadian university sports. The team posted a 3-5 record last year, and did not qualify for the playoffs.
