One of Europe’s last bastions of feudalism held an election earlier this week, and one of the world’s richest men didn’t like the result.

The citizens of Sark were faced with two groups of candidates, one which wanted to keep the island pretty much as is, and another group backed by billionaire twin brothers Sir David and Sire Fredrick Barclay. The brothers want radical reform of the island and a new constitution. The Barclay brothers own a neighbouring island and operate many businesses on the island of Sark.

The people overwhelmingly elected individuals in favour of the status quo.

In response, the Barclay’s have shut down their businesses and throw a sixth of the population out of work.
