A Wilfrid Laurier University music professor, an instructor and an alumnus have received a Grammy nomination in the category Best Small Ensemble Performance. The three were involved in a choral recording for the album Eric Whitacre: Choral Music. Leslie De’Ath, a professor in the faculty of music, contributed piano to three tracks, while Carol Bauman, an instructor, contributed percussion. Noel Edison, who graduated from Laurier with a music degree in 1985 and is a former part-time faculty member, conducted the Elora Festival Singers on the album. “The Grammy nomination doesn’t surprise me in terms of its performance quality. The choir sounds magnificent,” De’Ath said in a release from the university. The 53rd Grammy Awards take place Feb 13.
