Let them eat corn!

Iowa school shucks ban on corn-eating contest

The University of Iowa has shucked its ban on a corn-eating contest after removing gluttony from the equation.

Phillip Jones, vice-president for student services, drew many complaints after cancelling the annual contest last year. Jones says he has nothing against corn, just against the all-you-can-eat concept which he says promotes gluttony.

The contest, part of week-long celebrations leading up the annual football game against Iowa State, will be allowed this year.

But students will compete to see who can eat a single ear of corn the fastest, not who can eat the most.
