Today is the Canadian Interuniversity Sport football championship, the Vanier Cup. CIS could not ask for a better match-up or weather for the event being held at Hamilton’s historic Ivor Wynne Stadium.

First, the match-up.

In terms of geography, this is a dream match up for the business side of the operation. A Quebec vs. Ontario match-up means supporters of both teams are day-trip to the game. There is a very good chance the stadium will be nearly sold-out, if not sold-out. Having covered last years Cup in Toronto’s not-Skydome (Rogers Centre), I can state a large number of people in the stands helps create the atmosphere necessary for a successful game.

With Laval returning to the Vanier Cup, CIS is guaranteed a large audience from Quebec both in the stands and watching video of the game on television or over the internet. (more on the streaming in a minute) Football fans are extremely loyal in the province.

The "local" team, the University of Western Ontario, will bring out hordes of fans especially since the game is happening in the local area. A large number of UWO students and alumni live in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area. Expect a large turnout from the alumni.

Weather:

A great forecast of -2 with a westernly wind of 10km/h under a clear blue sky. Hamilton had snowfall two days ago, which means the game will have the perfect late fall look without a brutally cold tempature.

My prediction: Coach Greg Marshall will lead the Mustangs to victory!
