Lowest-income students increase at Harvard

Still a very small percentage of the student body

The Harvard Crimson reports that the number of students receiving Pell Grants, the main form of federal student aid in American, is up.

The numbers still show a lack of economic diversity at Harvard, no surprise there.

The surprise to me was the amount of the Pell Grant. With $4,310 as the maximum, its a lot higher than anything offered by Canadian governments. Of course, the "financial need" required for that amount of grant is so high, it’s hard to compare it to Canadian aid programs.

Additional: Diverse notes a report calling for improvements to Pell Grants.
