McGill to be penalized over MBA tuition hike
Education minister indicates province will follow through on threat to fine McGill
Quebec’s minister of education, Line Beauchamp, says she will be fining McGill University for hiking tuition in the MBA program from about $1,700 a semester to $29,500 a year. McGill announced the hike during the 2009-10 school year and did not seek government approval. Although the province has threatened repeatedly to claw back funding equivalent to what the university will gain from the increase, it is only now signaling that it will actually do so. The CBC is reporting that Beauchamp has asked for a list of all students enroled in the MBA program in order to calculate the size of the fine.
