Louisiana universities are closing early Friday to give students and professors time to evacuate in preparation for the arrival of Gustav.

The storm returned to hurricane strength as it headed towards the Cayman Islands Friday. Gustav -- which killed 71 people in the Caribbean -- is expected to pass over Cuba before hitting the southern States Sunday.

People in New Orleans have been told to evacuate their homes in preparation for the storm. Many are still living in temporary housing after losing their homes to Hurricane Katrina three years ago.

Delgado Community College, Loyola University New Orleans, Xavier University of Louisiana, Southern University at New Orleans, McNeese State University, and Tulane University have shut down and most don’t expect classes to resume until as late as Thursday next week.
