USask clinic says students have to go off campus to get doctor’s notes

University of Saskatchewan students looking to get out of final exams will now have to go off campus for a doctor’s note. The campus clinic has stopped issuing notes, and is instead encouraging professors to accept a "self-declaration" form from students who claim to have been ill when absent. Clinic staff say that they are unable to continue handling the rush of students who lineup for doctor’s notes at exam time, and that they cannot adequately assess a student’s condition without understanding their medical history, or if the illness has passed by the time student visits the clinic.  "To have spots booked up by someone who needs a note isn’t the best use of clinic time," the manager of student health and counselling told the Saskatoon Star Phoenix over the weekend. Student’s who are regular patients of the clinic will still be issued doctor’s notes.
