Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty travelled to his hometown college to announce $35-million in new capital funding today.

The $35-million will help fund a new centre for Ottawa-based Algonquin College’s construction trades and building sciences programs. The new building will enable the college to expand its programs creating 600 new student spaces.

Ontario is currently experiencing high demand for skilled construction industry workers, and demand for new workers is expected to continue to increase, with more than 50 percent of the industry’s labour force expected to retire in the next 15 years.

This is the single largest contribution the province has ever given to Algonquin College.
