Student arrested at Quebec education summit
Thousands protest proposed tuition hikes
A Quebec student was arrested Monday morning for disorderly conduct. The student was apprehended inside Quebec City’s Hilton Hotel where a summit of government, education and union officials is being held. Thousands of students have gathered outside the hotel in protest of proposals to raise tuition above the around $2,000 Quebec students currently pay. To coincide with the summit, some 60,000 students across the province are not in class today, instead they are staging a student strike. Riot police have been stationed near the hotel.
