York University

Founded 1959 | Toronto

Located in what was once a remote corner of Toronto, York University is now well connected to the city with the opening of two subway stations right on campus. With a student body numbering almost 55,000, it’s one of North America’s largest schools. York attracts students to its renowned programs in business, law, science and fine arts. Its 11 faculties, including the faculty of environmental and urban change, offer nearly 5,400 courses, and there are more than 350 student clubs and organizations.

“The York University community continues to lead innovative scholarship, research and teaching practices to ensure that our students have the high-quality learning experience that they expect from us, and to strengthen our impact by driving positive change in our local communities and around the world,” says president Rhonda Lenton.

The campus continues to expand. The Schulich School of Business opened a new graduate research building in 2019. Its distinctive design makes it one of the most environmentally sustainable academic buildings in North America. A major renovation to York Lions Stadium, including a new field and a seasonal dome, has transformed the existing structure for year-round, multi-purpose use. In 2022, the School of Continuing Studies building opened, providing much-needed classroom space. Its design aims to meet net-zero emission standards. Glendon, York’s bilingual liberal arts campus, offers small classes and is closer to downtown. A new campus in Markham will welcome students this fall.

Campus buzz: Students can connect with alumni during speed mentoring and networking events held throughout the year.
