We dig into some of the numbers from the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

If estimates are correct, more than a third of the world’s population will tune into see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot – or at least enter the chapel.

Here are some other numbers from the royal wedding:


The number of diamonds on Meghan Markle’s engagement ring. The ring was designed by Prince Harry himself and features one large diamond sourced from Botswana and two smaller diamonds from Princess Diana’s jewellery collection.

The number of Windsor Grey Horses that will pull the carriage around Windsor after the ceremony. Their names are: Milford Haven, Sir Basil, Tyrone and Storm. Two other horses, Plymouth and Londonderry will also march alongside the carriage.

The number of Meghan Markle’s bridesmaids, who are all under the age of seven. They are: Princess Charlotte, 3. Florence van Cutsem, 3, she is the goddaughter of Prince Harry, daughter of Mrs. Alice van Cutsem and Major Nicholas van Cutsem. Remi Litt, 6, and Rylan Litt, 7, they are the goddaughters of Markle, daughter of Benita Litt and Darren Litt. Ivy Mulroney, 4, she is the daughter of Jessica Mulroney and Ben Mulroney. Zalie Warren, 2, she is the goddaughter of Prince Harry, daughter of Zoe Warren and Jake Warren.

The number of charities the royal couple listed for support instead of sending wedding gifts.

They are:

  • CHIVA (Children’s HIV Association), a charity that support children with HIV.
  • Crisis, a national charity in the UK for homeless people.
  • Myna Mahila Foundation, a charity that “empowers women in Mumbai’s urban slums”
  • Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity for children whose parents have died while serving in the Armed Forces.
  • StreetGames, a charity that “uses sports to empower young people”.
  • Surfers Against Sewage, a charity that works to conserve oceans, beaches and wildlife and protect them from plastics.
  • The Wilderness Foundation UK, a charity that promotes the outdoors.


The time the wedding service will start in St. George’s Chapel on May 19, 2018.

Prince Harry’s age. He’s a year older than his father was when he married Princess Diana and four years older than his brother was when he married Kate.


The number of “Royal Borough Ambassadors” that are volunteering to help visitors around the viewing areas.

The number of plants for the wedding contributed from The Royal Parks. As much as possible, the plants and flowers used in the wedding will be in season during the month of May. They include: “branches of beech, birch and hornbeam, as well as white garden roses, peonies and foxgloves”.

The number of days between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement announcement and their wedding. According to The Knot, they are well ahead of the average couple, who take an average of 14.5 months from engagement to wedding.


The number of members of the Armed Forces that will perform ceremonial duties at the wedding.

The number of people invited to the wedding ceremony inside St. George’s Chapel.


The year construction on St. George’s Chapel was started. It took 53 years to complete.

The year the pastry chef baking the wedding cake opened her shop, Violet Bakery. She won’t be making the traditional fruitcake. She’ll bake the royal couple a lemon elderflower cake covered in buttercream and fresh flowers.

The royal couple opted to invite fewer guests than their royal predecessors, and instead, invited 2,640 people from the general public to the grounds of Windsor Castle to “feel part of the celebrations.”
