The remains of 21 babies were found under a bridge in the city of Jining, Shandong province, over the weekend. According to the People’s Daily website, ID tags on some of the babies traced back to a city hospital. The causes of death aren’t known. Stories and even videos of the scene have appeared on official news websites, a rare feat in a country that severely restricts the reporting of bad news. In China, the traditional preference for boys has led to a skewed sex ratio of 119 males born for every 100 females.
