The lone suspect in a dizzying series of L.A. arsons may have a Canadian connection. Harry Burkhart, 24, was arrested Monday and stands accused of lighting at least 50 fires over the long weekend, mostly in carports and driveways. Footage from Burkhart’s arrest shows a van with British Columbia license plates that may have been used in the crimes; a man matching Burkhart’s name and date of birth was charged with a traffic offence in Vancouver two years ago. According to the L.A. Times, Burkhart is a German national who was travelling on Chechen papers. He has been living in California for at least the last several years.
