BBC News mistakes Halo logo for that of the UN Security Council

The BBC managed to provide some comic relief on the topic of the UN and its dreadful failure to tackle the crisis in Syria with an egregious slip that’s now gone viral on YouTube.

As news anchor Sophie Raworth read a story about criticism of the UN’s inaction in Syria by human rights group Amnesty International on May 24, the screen behind her lit up not with the well known white-and-blue UN Security Council logo, but that of the United Nations Space Command, a fictional entity invented by the creators of popular video game Halo.

It’s likely the embarrassing confusion ensued after a quick search on Google Images for “UNSC” brought up Halo’s logo before the that of the Security Council–probably because gamers have a stronger presence on Google than UN wonks.

Watch the video of the mishap here.
