The paper’s owner, the New York Times Co., says it couldn’t gain enough concessions from unions
The New York Times, which owns the Boston Globe, is giving the federal government a notice of intent to shut down Boston’s leading newspaper within 60 days. The Times corporation is engaged in negotiations with the Boston Globe’s unions—and this could just be a very hardball way of trying to scare the unions into giving in. But if the money-losing Times does decide to shut down the Globe, it will make Bostonians hate New York even more than they already do. If that’s even possible.
