Christian Bale’s tantrum could cost him an Oscar

The Academy has a history of punishing bad boys

The Batman star’s much-circulated explicative-filled diatribe aimed at a director of photography on a film set could reduce his chances of ever winning an Academy Award, reports the Los Angles Times. Bale, who next stars in Public Enemies with Johnny Depp, had been steadily amassing industry respect. But his latest exploit, combined with the alleged assault of his mother and sister last year, could damage him with the Academy which has historically punished actors who engage in bad-boy antics: such notorious trouble-makers as Peter O’Toole, Richard Burton and more recently Russell Crowe have not been nominated for performances regarded as Oscar-worthy.
