Convicted killer to appear in Montreal stage production

Singer for Noir Désir served four years for killing girlfriend in 2003

Bertrand Cantat, the former singer of French rock band Noir Désir who spent four years in prison for the 2003 killing of his girlfriend, actress Marie Trintignant, is set to appear in a Montreal stage production opening in May 2012. Cantat has been commissioned to write the music and perform in a Greek tragedy by Wajdi Mouawad for the prestigious Théâtre du nouveau monde. Cantat was released from prison in 2007 after serving half the eight-year sentence he received for beating Trintignant to death.
