Defiant Mladic kicked out of UN court
Former military officer shouts, refuses to enter pleas
Ratko Mladic was kicked out of a UN courtroom in The Hague for outbursts of shouting and his refusal to enter pleas to the 11 charges he faces before the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal. Presiding Judge Alphons Orie, who had Mladic tossed out, followed court procedures for unruly suspects by entering not-guilty pleas on Mladic’s behalf. The 69-year-old is accused of orchestrating some of the worst atrocities of Bosnia’s 1992-95 war. Among them is the Srebrenica massacre in 1995, for which Mladic faces a charge of genocide. Eight thousand Muslim men and boys were killed in the massacre.
