Eliminate the deficit by 2014-2015

While releasing his party’s election platform on April 10 in Toronto, ON, Jack Layton promised to eliminate the deficit by 2014-2015 without major service cuts by hiking corporate tax rates to 19.5 per cent. The NDP says this will provide the government with nearly $10-billion in revenue. The NDP platform also vows to end fossil fuel subsidies, scrap new crime legislation and halt the funding of new prison construction.
