Ex-Mountie held in connection with police slaying
No connection is known between the former Saskatchewan officer and the on-duty Ottawa policeman
An ex-Mountie, Kevin Gregson, from Saskatchewan, is being held for the killing of an on-duty Ottawa police officer. The slain officer, Const. Eric Czapnik, 51, was sitting in his cruiser outside of Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital Tuesday morning when he was attacked and killed with a knife. Bystanders apprehended Gregson, while paramedics tried to revive the officer. But the father of four died of stab wounds. "The officer apparently was ... surprise attacked," said Ottawa police chief Vern White, "He was at the hospital on duty, (there) doesn’t appear to be a connection between the individual and the officer."
