Floods, tornadoes slam Saskatchewan
Golf-ball sized hail, rain and 100 km/hr winds force people from their homes
On Thursday night, Yorkton, Sask. received a month’s worth of rain in 30 minutes, along with golf-ball sized hail and winds gusting up to 100 km/hr. Local officials have declared a state of emergency. Residential streets were transformed into lakes, forcing drivers to abandon their cars in the deep water, and some residents fled their homes in canoes, reports the Montreal Gazette. According to Mayor James Wilson, approximately 125 people or 75 families are temporarily left without a home, and that number could be even higher as more residents return from the long weekend.
