In the view of seasoned political columnist Vaughan Palmer, yesterday’s leaders’ debate in the British Columbia provincial election had Liberal Premier Gordon Campbell on the defensive. While the NDP challenger Carole James didn’t say a lot about her own platform, she kept pushing the incumbent about his weaknesses. For his part, the premier kept returning to the economy—his perceived strong suit. Overall, Palmer found James “more focused, more to the point” than in the past. As for Jane Sterk, the Green leader, she “was close to irrelevant.”
