EDMONTON – Eighteen oil and gas workers from the Edmonton area are the lucky winners of a $20-million lottery ticket.
The workers — all men — have been playing regularly together for about five years.
Paul Furlong says he checked the winning Lotto Max ticket the morning after the Friday draw on Aug. 31 and couldn’t believe his eyes.
He phoned some of his colleagues to give them the big news but some didn’t find out until they returned to work after the long weekend.
Some of the workers say they plan to pay off mortgages, buy sports cars and retire.
In 2005, another group of 18 oil and gas workers from Camrose, Alta., won the country’s largest lottery jackpot at $54.2 million.
