A hostage has been taken by a man with a handgun at the Discovery Channel headquarters building in suburban Washington. A reporter from the local ABC affiliate said an ambulance crew wheeled a gurney into the building about an hour after the incident began at 1 p.m. EDT, but there was no official word of casualties. The likely suspect is James Jay Lee, who has had a history of staging protests against the TV station, and was even arrested in 2008 because of a protest. At a press conference outside the building, a police officer said negotiations with the man were ongoing and he could not confirm the number of hostages, but said the police are going on the assumption that he is carrying explosive devices.
