Gunmen attack Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan
Gunmen in the Pakistani city of Lahore attacked a bus carrying the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team today, killing at least six police officers who were escorting the team. Conflicting reports suggest that bystanders and a driver might also have been killed. The attackers used assault rifles, grenades, and rocket-propelled grenades. Pakistani officials said the assault had similarities to the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, last year, which appear to have been carried out by Pakistan-based Islamists. Pakistan invited the Sri Lankan team only after the Indian squad pulled out of a scheduled tour because of security concerns.
