Hire more doctors and nurses

While campaigning in Sudbury, ON, on April 1, NDP Leader Jack Layton promised that an NDP government would hire 1,200 doctors (including repatriating 300 Canadian doctors living abroad) and 6,000 nurses. The NDP would also invest $80-million to upgrade medical schools and would forgive student loans for medical professionals choosing family medicine for 10 years.
