Hiring credit for small business

On March 29, while campaigning in Edmonton, AB, Stephen Harper promised to implement a hiring credit for small business, which would provide a one-time credit of up to $1,000 against increasing EI premiums in 2011 to approximately 525,000 employers. According to the Tories, this would reduce small business payroll costs by about $165-million. The Hiring Credit for Small Business proposal had been included in the 2011 Federal Budget.
