Hurricane Isaac is making its way across Louisiana, the CBC reports, flooding roads, pushing water over levees and knocking out powers.

While Isaac is less powerful than Hurricane Katrina, the storm flooded a 29-kilometre stretch of a levee in Plaquemines Parish south of New Orleans, including some houses.

Isaac blew in with 130 km/h winds, making it a Category 1 hurricane. The storm is headed for the city of New Orleans on the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The storm is expected to test the city’s increased flood and storm fortifications.

So far, Isaac has killed at least 23 and caused major flooding and damaging in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
