Amid all the worry in Manitoba over the possibility of major Red River flooding this spring, there’s at least one upbeat story: Hutterites have emerged from their usually self-contained colonies, which aren’t threatened by floodwaters, to help with sandbagging to save neighbouring communities. This story describes members of the communal Anabaptist sect as showing up to help “armed with a work ethic as legendary as their suspenders and polka-dot headscarves.”
