’I’m living the dream’
Slain Ottawa policeman Eric Czapnik, 51, had been on the job for just three years
Const. Eric Czapnik, killed on Monday outside Ottawa’s Civic Hospital, had always wanted to be a cop, like his dad. So he quit his job at a furniture store and joined the Ottawa Police in 2007. The fact he was nearing 50 didn’t deter him or the police force. Chief Vern White said what mattered was his qualifications, not his age. He loved his job. Ottawa Police special constable Robert Konopka asked him: "How are things’ and he says, ’I’m living the dream.’ I swear to God, that’s what he said."
