Canada has won its second medal at the Vancouver Games. Ottawa native Kristina Groves placed third in the women’s 3,000-metre speed skating event to capture a bronze medal. The Czech Republic’s Martina Sablikova took the gold medal, while Germany’s Stephanie Beckert won the silver in the race. Going into the event, Groves was ranked fourth in the world and had two medals to her credit, having taken home silver medals in the 1,500-metre race and the team pursuit at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin.
