When word got out that The Amazing Race was coming to Canada, Sonya Bell’s ears might have perked up. Her heart may have stirred. She probably didn’t know why at the time, but it all made sense when we enlisted her to chronicle each of the show’s episodes throughout its inaugural summer season. (Sonya was no reality TV rookie. She’d previously written about The Bachelor for Maclean’s, including a post-show heart-to-heart with Brad and Bianka.)
