McDonald’s recalls Shrek glasses
Movie-themed glasses tainted with toxic metal
McDonald’s has recalled 12 million drinking glasses that promote the new Shrek movie because their designs are tainted with cadmium, a toxic metal, BBC reports. Glasses were sold in the U.S. for about $2 each, showing four different designs from the animated film. McDonald’s said the move came “out of an abundance of caution,” and that the glassware is “safe for consumer use.” But the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned people to stop using them, as cadmium can damage the liver, kidneys, lungs, nervous system and brain. The glasses raised concerns about long-term exposure to low levels.
