Michelle Obama heads today’s speakers at Democratic convention

The Democratic National Convention kicks off today in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Democratic National Convention kicks off today in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The first two days will be held at the Time Warner Cable Arena. Later in the week, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will accept the Democratic nominations at the Bank of America Stadium.

Tuesday’s roster of speeches include remarks from Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker, a video of Jimmy Carter, a speech by actor-turned-former associate director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, Kal Penn, and First Lady Michelle Obama. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is also due to make a speech. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will speak, as will Massachusetts House candidate Joe Kennedy III.

Other speakers later this week will include Costco co-founder and former CEO Jim Sinegal, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Eva Longoria, Obama campaign co-chair. Senator Charles Schumer of New York will also be present later this week, as will Cuban-American journalist Cristina Saralegui, and Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.
