Eighteen years after his jet was shot down on the first night of the 1991 Iraq war, U.S. military officials say the body of Navy Captain Michael Scott Speicher has been recovered. The Pentagon announced they had found Speicher’s remains after being led by an Iraqi citizen to the pilot’s burial spot in the desert. Witnesses say Specicher’s body had been found by Bedouin in a remote part of western Iraq and that they buried him there. The discovery ends years of rumours that Speicher may still be alive and a captive in Iraq.
