Toronto councillor caught masquerading on open-line show as anonymous supporter of mayor

Toronto city councillor Sandra Bussin has apologized to John Tory, the politician-turned-radio host, for pretending to be an everyday supporter of Mayor David Miller when she called Tory’s open-line show last Friday. Bussin, a longtime Miller ally, described the mayor as "probably the most brilliant politician, municipally, across the country" and challenged Tory on statistics he’d cited to criticize Miller. The call appears to have been an attempt to discredit Tory rather than burnish the mayor’s reputation. Miller recently announced he won’t run again, while Tory is planning a second run at the mayoralty after unsuccessful campaigns for that office and, later, for premier of Ontario. Tory’s co-host Tarek Fatah asked Bussin several times on air if she worked for the city, which she denied. Her explanation yesterday? "I don’t work for the city. I work for my constituents."
