In what appears a desperate bid to increase viewership, Academy Award organizers are considering scrapping the red carpet pre-show, believing it will force people to watch the actual ceremony to see what the celebrities are wearing, reports the New York Times. The Oscar audience dwindled to an all-time low last year, dragging down advertising rates. There’s also talk of screening trailers from upcoming movies at the end of the Feb. 22 ceremony hosted  by Hugh Jackman, in hopes that this will keep the audience hanging on until the the last award has been handed out.
