Opposition parties defend Page’s independence
Canada’s first Parliamentary budget officer, whose role is to add transparency to government spending, is under scrutiny. But as the government-appointed Joint Library of Parliament Committee takes a closer look at Kevin Page’s role, opposition parties are pledging to rise to his defense if his independence is jeopardized. Page received a reprimand after revealing the cost of the Afghanistan war ($18 billion) during the last election campaign.
