Restore pensions and benefits to veterans

While campaigning in Dartmouth, NS, on April 2, NDP Leader Jack Layton promised to end pension reductions for retired and disabled RCMP and Canadian Forces members, restore the Service Income Security Insurance Plan, overhaul the Veterans Review and Appeal Board, introduce a "Helmets-to-Hardhats" work program to help vets transition to construction and shipbuilding trades, and launch a public inquiry into the use of toxic chemicals at CFB Gagetown.
