Rip out those “Made in Canada” pipes
Protectionist policies in the U.S. take a turn for the absurd
Workers at a new healthcare centre at the Camp Pendleton Marine base in California have been tasked with ripping out freshly installed plastic piping, even though there are no signs it is either broken or defective. The reason? According to Veso Sobot, a spokesperson for IPEX Inc., which sold the pipe to the California Marine installation, it’s stamped, ’Made in Canada’ and needs to be replaced with American-made piping. "We’ve never seen such a wave of protectionism as at this moment," says Sobot.
