Saddam Hussein told his American captors that he only pretended to have weapons of mass destruction in order to keep the Iranians at bay, according to newly-released interviews. The transcripts from 25 interrogations of the late Iraqi dictator after his 2004 capture were released under US Freedom of Information laws and posted on a think-tank website yesterday. Among the revelations, Hussein considered Osama bin Laden a “zealot” and said he had absolutely no dealings with al-Qaeda.
