Stock Day’s takes the high road on protectionist squabble

Canadian exemption if necessary, but not necessarily a Canadian exemption

Amid all the uproar over the Buy America clause in the stimulus package passed last week by the U.S. House of Representatives, a nuance in Canadian Trade Minister Stockwell Day’s response deserves reflection. Rather than narrowly championing Canada’s interests, Day expressed a preference for a solution that helped all the U.S.’s trading partners.
