Expand CPP benefits, $700-million boost to GIS

While campaigning in Vancouver, BC, on March 30, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff promised to work with the provinces and territories to expand the benefits paid out by the Canada Pension Plan and establishing a new Secure Retirement Option  a voluntary, tax-deductable savings option. The Liberals have also promised to provide a $700-million annual boost to the Guaranteed Income Supplement in order to reduce poverty among seniors, particularly women and those with disabilities.
