Trapped Chilean miner proposes to partner of 25 years
Esteban Rojas, a 44-year-old miner trapped 700 metres below the surface of the Codelco copper mine in Chile has proposed to his partner of 25 years. He and his wife Jessica Yanez are civilly tied, but never had a church wedding. “Please keep praying that we get out of this alive. And when I do get out, we will buy a dress and get married,” Rojas wrote on a scrap of paper he sent up through a pipe to the surface. On Sunday, the couple began planning their ceremony during a 20 second phone call. “He knows that however long it takes, I’ll wait for him,” Yanez told the Daily Mail newspaper.
