Many Canadians have likely thought it, but the federal transport minister evidently did not know he was standing in a media workroom when he spoke his mind about Toronto during a Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference in Whistler, B.C. Irked by the city’s unorthodox application for infrastructure funds, John Baird told a group of aides: "Twenty-seven hundred people got it right. They didn’t. That is not a partnership and they’re bitching at us. They should f--- off." Unlike other Canadian cities in towns, which have applied for funds to support a range of projects, Toronto has asked only for money to help buy 204 new streetcars from Bombardier.
